This is from a column I wrote recently in my newspaper.
It's called "Taking Aim at Starbucks."That and a quarter will buy you a cup of coffee.
Remember that old saying?
That saying started off with the cup of coffee costing you a dime, but then was updated due to inflation.
If you were to say that today, you’d have to say something like: “That and four bucks will buy you an iced mocha frappucinno grande.”
It is being reported that Starbucks announced recently that it plans to raise prices of its lattes, cappuccinos, drip coffee and other drinks 5 cents, or an average 1.9 percent.
I’ve got to hand it to these guys; the folks at Starbucks have elevated the whole marketing three card Monte trick to an art form.
You walk into any Starbucks and you see this grand, or using the Starbucks vernacular, “grande” menu behind the counter that offers this wide assortment of beverages both hot and cold.

INR ) playing cards in a family gathering. We were playing three card poker . We play three card poker at home, every year on a festival called Diwali . | | Are Sardars really like that ... | | I always used to wonder if Sardars are really that dumb and then I came across one who really made me believe that they indeed are. That day we were travelling in a train and I had my friends with me one of whom was a sardar. We were gettin bored so we decided to play teen patti(three card gambling). In one game I got bad card and withdrew from the game and so did that sardar. After the game he said he is not playing and went away. When I asked him the reason (when we were alone) he said " I dont know what happened to me, I did not want to pack(withdraw), I had three Aces but donno what happened. And then I checked my watch it was 12:00am. You swear that you will not tell this to anyone." hahahaha. | |
