| old encyclopedia of my husband | | i told my husband of the really expensive encyclopedia that i saw at the store. then he said, he has old books that he asked his father to buy for him when he was still a kid.then he went to the storage room and took a couple out. and i was really happy to see them for then i will have materials to share with the baby and i don't have to buy new ones! yippeee! they are still in good condition...well, they just smell old and the pages are brown...but they are still okay. and the information there is not obsolete, because these are about animals, insects, plants, etc. i am soooo happy. my in-laws wanted to donate these books to the local school library, but my husband insisted on keeping them. very good decision on his part.how about you? do you still have your old books around? are they still in good condition? have your children benefited from them? take care all and God bless you!happy mylotting! | |
| | What do you think of starting a new encyclopedia site on the internet? | | I don't like Wikipedia for some things, although it is helpful for learning obscure things about odd topics once in a while. However, my biggest complaint about Wikipedia is the inability to include a short article about a topic and their judgment of what topics are important. I am starting a new encyclopedia site where I can put whatever interests me on no matter how big or small the definition will be. I however will not include definitions of people say, Bob Smith who lives on 5th street in such and such a place. To include a person they have to have a somewhat significant meaning--such as they produced videos on Myspace or the same person appears multiple times when I look them up on Google.
To get a personal name on it, I may put contributed by and a person's name--I suppose if the person would contribute enough entries I could include a definition of them as an important contributor.
However, the point of this post is to gather information about my idea. What do you think--would my encyclopedia idea be better than using Wikipedia? After all, a topic would have more of a chance to end up in my encyclopedia web page.

| do you GOOGLE or do you still use dictionary/encyclopedia | | I spend a lot of time in the computer and surfing the internet. A lot of new words have evolved with the evolution of modern technologies... like blogging to name just one. And some words have new meaning and been accepted as regular words... like "search"... now it could mean "google".I recently wrote a blog about me being a splogger. I don't really know what it means and I didn't exert extra effort to find out what it really means. When my friend read about it... she wrote.. I "googled" about it and I found out that splogger means.....Are you like my friend? Do you also "google" to find meaning to words or search for anything and everything? Have you stopped using the dictionary now and use google instead? | |
